Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Hyperledger

DJ: You're listening to Think Blockchain.

Jerry Cuomo: Hey, everyone, Jerry Cuomo here. And welcome to this bonus episode. Given the title of the podcast and associated book is Think Blockchain, DJ and I have teed up some key takeaways from the book that make you think and go," Hmm." All right, DJ, over to you.

DJ: Okay. Sure thing. This one goes, Bitcoin is just one of 1, 000 applications of blockchain.

Jerry Cuomo: That's right, DJ. I like to say if there are 1, 000 applications of blockchain technology, Bitcoin and cryptocurrency are just one. The Think Blockchain book also examines many of the other 999 applications, including registries for land, vehicles, collectibles, medical data, and clinical trial marketplaces, real estate management, music rights and royalty tracking, identity management for people, places, and things, supply chains, logistics monitoring, and dispute management. As we cover in the book, blockchain technology comes in many shapes and sizes. Specifically, in chapters four through six, we study three pioneering use cases of blockchain and the specific technology breakthrough that defines them as a pioneer. The first pioneer is Bitcoin. We study cryptocurrency as the use case and mining as the breakthrough. We repeat this pattern for the pioneer Ethereum, studying tokens and NFTs, and how it is enabled through the breakthrough of smart contracts. The third blockchain pioneer is Hyperledger, where we look at enterprise use cases and how modularity is Hyperledger's thing, making it the Lego of blockchain. And as I said, Bitcoin is just one of 1, 000. I hope this has got you thinking a little about the other 999. Thanks for listening and see you on an upcoming episode.
