For NZX-listed customers in New Zealand they now have mandatory requirements around ESG reporting and improvement and policies and procedures to improve in those areas. ESG reporting was a problem that they had to solve because they needed it from a compliance perspective. IBM has the Envizi platform, which is by far the leading platform in ESG reporting so it made sense to explore that. From spending time with your team and based on our prior relationships and experience, we started to realize that if we work together, we could start to solve this problem for our customers. Mr Lim Chinn Hwa leads the Smart Nation Platform Solutions Group, and is responsible for the overall management, including the design, development and implementation of technical solutions for the Sensors Platform and Digital Districts. Chinn Hwa brings with him more than 25 years of experience in software development, cloud implementation, and long-range business planning and execution in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Manufacturing and Media and Entertainment industries. He was a Software Architect and Lead Strategist at Autodesk, spearheading regional projects in the design, development and implementation of Smart Cities and Digital Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Manufacturing Solutions. Prior to joining Autodesk he founded AKSAAS, which was acquired by Autodesk in 2014. He started his career with Singapore Computer Systems as a Systems Specialist on military systems after graduating from Taylor University with a Bachelor of Science, and holds a Master of Technology in Knowledge Engineering from the National University of Singapore.

Aspects of AI that we need to pay attention to because there are game changers in many ways for allowing efficiency and productivity for the work that we do, not only in the citizen's perspective, but also from the government perspective. And ultimately we want to see AI as a tool that allow us to make better decisions than taking large amounts of data and processing it so that we can understand them. In many ways, we have actually let the genie out of the bottle, and we see AI is something that we need to figure out how to manage. And when we are looking at it from a government perspective on managing AI, I think there are two levels. We have to think of it from the citizen point of view and the government point of view. So from a citizens' is essentially how do they use this to enable them to be more productive in many ways economically, so it's a bread and butter issue. But from a government, how do we create a wellbeing of the country and the different policies that encourage this ability to thrive? So with this two aspiration, AI plays a role to do the discovery of things, and in that discovery we will learn about how we do policies better. And in terms of being able to use it from a citizen point of view, how do they have the tools to do better work. If you take AI and apply in an area that hallucination takes place, say a psychiatrist, and you just plug in some things. So I have these symptoms and you let the AI do its thing, it could probably lead us down to a path we don't want to take. And so the application of where AI in use cases is going to be a very key aspect of how we do application and think about the way AI is used. So governing this aspect is going to be an important requirement. In Singapore, we are very conscious of the fact there is a digital divide in some sense. For those who are digitally capable, they're able to handle the different digital technologies that come with being able to be more efficient and productive of the use of technology. And then there is a group that are not comfortable. They don't know how to engage this. So we recognize this difference and therefore we have to be very careful in how AI is applied. It is not a one brush stroke that can appeal to everyone. So given the fact that we know there's this divide, how do we therefore look at the low hanging fruits in terms of use case development that the country can benefit from a societal point of view. I think also what is going to be very clear to us is that while we want to be able to take the fruits of AI, it is eventually going to also require the humanity. It is not letting technology lead us through something, it is about people using technology as a tool to guide everybody else along the path to a better place.

StarHub’s vision is to be a smart city service provider so that we can enable smart, safe, sustainable society for the enterprise and citizens.The use of AI requires high bandwidth. Because it is a mission- critical event, it requires low latency as well. Because this is a public service, transmitting the data from 5G to the command center needs to be secure. These are the three important aspects of using 5G -- high bandwidth, low latency and security -- which is needed to meet the criteria in the formation of a smarter city. As a smart city service provider, enabling a unified network architecture for mobile networks; wifi networks; access network; data center networks; the subsystem network, which is the IoT networks, into a single unified network architecture, enabling opportunities for enterprises, government, citizens to share data seamlessly in a hybrid multi- cloud architecture. As a smart city services provider, we need to enable a unified network architecture across different networks -- mobile and WiFi --and gather insights for our citizens. This is where 5G plays an important role, to fuel the operations and to deliver near real-time latency.

A shift from a big focus on 'visibility and control' to include 'discovery and validation'. So we've all made a lot of investments to get the right controls in the right spots to prevent as much as we possibly can. And then visibility, to detect and respond when under attack to be highly efficient, resilient in that situation. But the reality is all of those investments are only as good as what we're deploying it against. So if we think we're defending something that looks like that's a subset, an attacker sees us differently, well there's going to be things that we know about that the attacker can't see. There's going to be things that both the defender and the attacker sees and then there's going to be the operational mistakes. It's incredibly important to have some mechanism to do discovery to ensure that you can see your business the same way that the attacker sees your business. And the next thing I would think about would be that validation. Once you have a good handle of what you're actually defending, you got to make sure you have the controls in the right spot, configured in the right way, that your team in fact knows how to use them and they're highly resilient and effective at using those controls and enable to respond quick when under attack. So the shift from visibility and control, the emphasis now needs to maintain visibility and control, but add to it, discovery and validation to understand how real attacks take place. The last that I would say is having gone through that experience set, it's incredibly important for the defender to get a very strong sense of what the crown jewels are. We're not able to protect all assets equally, and it's really important to make sure that you understand your attack surface, get it as tightly managed as possible, get those crown jewels far away from that attack surface and get your program in place to be highly resilient in that face of compromise.
