James Rands joined Janes in 2018 after a career as an infantry officer in the British Army. He served in Kosovo, Macedonia, Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. He has served on attachment with the USMC and the Netherlands Airborne Brigade. For much of his career he worked in intelligence. James joined Janes as the C4ISR manager but recently moved to country intelligence where he is the senior military capabilities analyst. James holds a bachelor degree in War Studies from King’s College London and masters in Philosophy from the Open University. He continues to serve as a reservist.

Rachel Minyoung Lee is a Senior Fellow for the Stimson Center’s Korea Program and 38 North, where she focuses on North Korea’s domestic developments and foreign policy. She is also co-chair of the Steering Committee for the North Korea Economic Forum at the George Washington Institute for Korean Studies.
 
Lee was a North Korean propaganda analyst with Open Source Enterprise in the US government from 2000 to 2019. During that time, she wrote on a broad range of North Korean issues, from leadership, domestic politics and economy, and foreign policy, to social and cultural developments. As Analysis Team Lead, Lee headed a team of collection officers and analysts to collect on, research, and analyse North and South Korean issues with implications for Pyongyang’s regime stability and regional security

Cristina Varriale is Janes lead analyst on the APAC Country Intelligence team. Before joining Janes in April 2022, Cristina spent six years in the Proliferation and the Nuclear Policy Team at the RUSI think tank, culminating in a short period as acting director. Prior to RUSI, she worked with the International Center for Security Analysis at the Policy Institute, Kings College, London. Her work primarily focuses on researching and analysing North Korea's domestic security and stability, the country's WMD programs, foreign relationships and the implications for securities.

With the situation in Israel and Lebanon continuing to evolve, Janes analysts Elliot Chapman and Suraj Ganesan return to join Harry Kemsley and Sean Corbett to provide an update on the situation on the ground and the strategic implications of the conflict for regional security.

Elliot Chapman is a Research Analyst, in the Middle East and North Africa team. Elliot joined Janes' Central Analysis Team in December 2020 before helping to stand up Janes Country Intelligence, beginning in August 2021. Before working at Janes Elliot worked for a political risk advisory firm focused on emerging markets. Prior to this Elliot worked as a researcher and producer for for military technology events. Elliot's work involves closely monitoring and analysis of Israeli security operations and Palestinian militant activity.

The situation in Israel - Lebanon

Harry Kemsley and Sean Corbett take a closer look on the increasing use and threat of misinformation and disinformation. They explore the differences between the two and why now more than ever it is important for analysts to use tradecraft to overcome these threats to ensure analysis is formed on truth and intelligence can be trusted.

Sean Corbett retired from the Royal Air Force in September 2018 after a 30-year career as a professional intelligence officer, where he reached the pinnacle of his profession. He then established a Defence, Security and Intelligence Directorate within a 'new space' geospatial intelligence company, Earth-i, where he advanced innovative Al applications to earth observation data in support of the defence and security sector, and instigated the concept of 'intelligence as a service', leveraging a wide spectrum of publicly available information to answer challenging questions for the community. In October 2019, he set up his own business as a consultant specialising in the provision of strategic advice, commercial intelligence, the space sector, and the optimisation of organisational leadership and change management.

Puja holds a Master's Degree in International Relations and Political Science from Jadavpur University in Kolkata, West Bengal. She has about 10 years of experience in analysing risk events.
In her previous organisation, she spearheaded several projects, including the semiconductor events project, Maritime Piracy project, and established processes for AI-generated events, among others.
