In part one of this podcast Harry Kemsley and Sean Corbett are joined by Janes analysts Dylan Lee Lehrke and James Rands to discuss the lessons learned from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The panel discusses the changing tactics deployed by Russia and Ukraine during the campaign and what this conflict has told us about the conduct of modern warfare.

Dylan Lee Lehrke is the Head of OrBats, Inventories, Installations, and Imagery at Janes. Prior to taking his current position he was Janes’ Senior NATO Analyst. Dylan served in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1996 to 1999, deploying to Kuwait and Bosnia. He holds a PhD in peace studies from the Irish School of Ecumenics at Trinity College in Dublin, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington’s Jackson School of International Studies. He previously worked as a fellow with the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration and as the Chief of Staff for the Project on National Security Reform’s Case Studies Working Group.

James Rands joined Janes in 2018 after a career as an infantry officer in the British Army. He served in Kosovo, Macedonia, Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. He has served on attachment with the USMC and the Netherlands Airborne Brigade. For much of his career he worked in intelligence. James joined Janes as the C4ISR manager but recently moved to country intelligence where he is the senior military capabilities analyst. James holds a bachelor degree in War Studies from King’s College London and masters in Philosophy from the Open University. He continues to serve as a reservist.

They explore the differences between the two and why now more than ever it is important for analysts to use tradecraft to overcome these threats to ensure analysis is formed on truth and intelligence can be trusted.

Sean Corbett retired from the Royal Air Force in September 2018 after a 30-year career as a professional intelligence officer, where he reached the pinnacle of his profession. He then established a Defence, Security and Intelligence Directorate within a 'new space' geospatial intelligence company, Earth-i, where he advanced innovative Al applications to earth observation data in support of the defence and security sector, and instigated the concept of 'intelligence as a service', leveraging a wide spectrum of publicly available information to answer challenging questions for the community. In October 2019, he set up his own business as a consultant specialising in the provision of strategic advice, commercial intelligence, the space sector, and the optimisation of organisational leadership and change management.

Harry Kemsley and Sean Corbett are joined by IBM master inventor Martin Keene to explore the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on open-source intelligence. The panel discusses how AI can support tradecraft, the future of AI-driven predictive analytics, and why humans are critical in evaluating AI analysis.

Martin is a Master Inventor at IBM with over 400 issued patents,  6 million+ views on the IBM Technology YouTube channel where he presents on AI and data science. Martin also produces scripts, presents and produces video courses for IBM Training. He has recently spoken at SHRM 2024 "What Executives Need To Know About Generative AI" and SPADE 2024 "Generative AI Use Cases Across Defense Domains" and has recently been recognised at TEC North Carolina Inventor Of The Year and 
achieved NEXT TECH award for Tech + Innovation.

Harry Kemsley and Sean Corbett are joined in this episode by Janes analysts Puja Banerjee, Sarbhanu Nath and Shivani Gayakwad to discuss the key events relating to the ongoing political instability in Bangladesh.Following weeks of protests and violence, the country is currently being run by an interim government following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina on 5th August. The panel discuss how this instability will impact the country and it's international neighbours and allies. They also share how open-source intelligence provides indicators for predictive assessments of the ongoing situation.

Puja Banerjee is the Manager of the Geopolitical Risk Events that is involved in tracking and monitoring Terrorism and Insurgency, Serious and Organised crime, Protests and Riots, and other Government & Political events and is part of Janes' current Intelligence offering.

Puja holds a Master's Degree in International Relations and Political Science from Jadavpur University in Kolkata, West Bengal. She has about 10 years of experience in analysing risk events.
In her previous organisation, she spearheaded several projects, including the semiconductor events project, Maritime Piracy project, and established processes for AI-generated events, among others.

Elliot Chapman is a Research Analyst, in the Middle East and North Africa team. Elliot joined Janes' Central Analysis Team in December 2020 before helping to stand up Janes Country Intelligence, beginning in August 2021. Before working at Janes Elliot worked for a political risk advisory firm focused on emerging markets. Prior to this Elliot worked as a researcher and producer for for military technology events. Elliot's work involves closely monitoring and analysis of Israeli security operations and Palestinian militant activity. Elliot also served in the British Army Reserves.

In the second part of this podcast Harry Kemsley and Sean Corbett are again joined by Janes analysts Dylan Lee Lehrke and James Rands to discuss the lessons learned from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.&nbsp; The panel continue their exploration of the changing tactics being deployed by Russia and Ukraine including the increasing use of unmanned warfare. They explore if their use is an indicator of a change in modern warfare and how the conflict may evolve over time.

In this episode Harry Kemsley and Sean Corbett are joined by Janes analysts Estefania Dominguez and Matthew Herman to provide situational understanding of the potential implications to state stability of the presidential elections being held on 28 July 2024. Estefania provides a contextual overview of why these elections are so significant and the panel discuss how the use of open-source intelligence helps to provide predictive analysis of situations in a relatively closed environment such at Venezuela.

Matthew's worked for Janes for 15 years, and prior to his country intelligence role was the head of the Janes Terrorism and Insurgency Center. Matthew has a BA in War Studies from Kings College, London, and an MA in Intelligence and International Security from the same institution.

Rands highlights the military capabilities required to operate in this challenging environment.They also discuss the important role open-source intelligence plays in providing early-warning indicators of activity and any escalation in tensions in what is likely to become a key global strategic area.
